Overview

Smyth County Education Foundation started the Freeman Scholarship with a donation by the Freeman family in memory of sisters Carla Freeman Sweet and Cynthia Freeman. Carla was a special education teacher, and Cynthia was a music teacher.  These sisters were dedicated teachers who shared their love for teaching and children in their communities.

The priority for scholarships is given first to those pursuing a degree in choral music, then to music education, and third, to the education major.
